Kumudini

Self help through craft
Kumudini Handicrafts supports about 25,000 impoverished women throughout Bangladesh, providing them with opportunities to help themselves. Working at home, either individually or as members of a local group, women earn supplementary income with embroidery, weaving, natural dyeing and tailoring.
One of the oldest and most beautiful of Bangladeshi crafts is Nakshi Kantha embroidery. Many of the women working with Kumudini Handicrafts are initially unfamiliar with this skill so they begin by working with designs already printed on the cloth and are given the necessary threads. With more experience, they are happy to move on to embroider designs of their own devising.
