CORR - The Jute Works
CORR-The Jute Works began its journey in 1973 with a special mission to rehabilitate war-affected poor rural women of Bangladesh. This rehabilitation was to be achieved by providing the women with opportunities for economic independence by producing handcrafts item out of the locally available raw material 'jute'.
Jute is a strong natural fibre grown in abundance in Bangladesh. It is more environmentally friendly than plastic and, being an annual crop, there is no permanent deforestation from its harvesting. CORR organises and trains poor rural women into a co-operative system to produce traditional designs of products made from jute, with the range including items from carry bags to hammocks.
