Mother & baby
Coping with pregnancy is hard enough. Coping with it when you’re poor, in Cambodia, and miles from anywhere, makes it even harder. This card will help pay for community training and support so that young Cambodian women get the help and education they need to keep their babies healthy.
In rural Cambodia, health services are limited and costly. This gift helps train community members to teach mums-to-be how to take care of themselves during pregnancy and care for their newborn babies. Oxfam Australia also assists the poorest women and families to access health centres and hospitals in times of need.
“During my pregnancy, the traditional birth attendant came to my house to meet with me. She gave me advice about the many kinds of vegetables I should eat so that I would have a healthy baby. She also told me that I should not work hard or do any heavy work during the pregnancy, like climbing trees. After she delivered the baby she also advised me on how to take care of the baby, how to clean, bathe and wash the baby.” Ton Chanton (mother of two), Pakle village, Cambodia.
