Frankincense and Myrrh were probably the very first fragrances to be commercially traded. These resins from the trees native to the Arabian peninsula were so highly regarded in ancient times that an entire fleet of ships was exclusively reserved for their transport and trade. An Egyptian papyrus dated 1550 B.C. lists these two scents as major ingredients in the recipe for Kyphi, one of the earliest known perfumes. The enduring allure of these ancient fragrances is undiminished by the passage of time.
