Rose continues to be a fascination in Australia. Trouble is that so many are lolly water sweet and lack the serious edge that good Rose can have. We’ve put this assortment together as a great example of what Rose can be. Serious wine that is good fun – true grape characters, a little sweetness and great fun inside every mouthful. These will go with anything from seafood, salads and nibbles to barbecued meats, tarts and pizza. Enjoy!

Four each of:

Psst'n'Broke 2007 Rose – Hunter Valley
Made entirely from family grown Merlot at Broke in the Hunter Valley, this wine is relatively full flavoured for a Rose exhibiting raspberries, plums, crushed strawberries and mixed spice. The palate is fresh and vibrant, showing plenty of ripe berries and plums, before a crisp finish. Perfect for an alfresco feast of fresh prawns or as an accompaniment to a spicy Asian curry.

Zontes Footstep 2004 Cabernet Petit Verdot – Langhorne Creek
An audacious array of aromatics... cherry, redcurrant and boysenberry jujubes doused in the stewed quince juices and fresh strawberries, under just a dusting of cardamom, icing sugar and vanilla pod and, lurking below, lovely liquorice.
Very juicy, very gluggable, very chewy. Fruity yet dry. Good acidity with a tweak of tannin. It's got flavours with a touch of cherry and just a little bit of nettle and herb. The touch of tannin, the blackcurrant leaf nature, plus the little lick of acidity means that this wine matches food very well. To complement rather than overpower. It is medium bodied with simply delicious red fruit complete with the palate cleansing acidity of biting into a properly ripened plum and just enough tannins to give a little cranberry-like snap to the finish. In short, this is the best expression of the season, will be fabulous with Thanksgiving dinner, and it is interesting enough for wine-geeks, yet Grandma will want a second glass even before the Turkey gets carved.

Beelgara Winemaker’s Selection 2006 Grenache Rose – Riverina
A delightful pink coloured wine with vibrant crimson hues. Attractive raspberry fruit aromas. The mid palate is well-weighted, exhibiting sweet ripe berry flavours before finishing with a savoury crisp acidity.
An excellent aperitif or enjoyed with dips, pate and cheese.
